What are the sources of food?

All of the food we eat comes from either directly from plants or by those animals used as food sources which are picked up by feeding food from plants. The processed food we eat in our days is a combination of various ingredients that are sourced from either plants or animals. Some foods are indirectly obtained from animal or plant sources such as edible fungi, especially mushrooms. Fungi and ambient bacteria are used in the preparation of fermented and pickled foods like leavened bread, pickles, alcoholic drinks, cheese, etc. Blue-green algae such as Spirulina is also another example. Inorganic substances such as baking soda, salt, and tartar cream are used to preserve or chemically convert a component.
